Celebrating the Choir June 3, 2019

The Ugandan Kids Choir delighted audiences around the United States for over a decade, with upbeat performances featuring authentic East African music, drumming, and dance, along with Christian Ugandan and American worship songs. Everywhere they went they put a smile on people’s faces, and a bounce in people’s step. As we look back on 13 years of tours, we wanted to share a few of our favorite memories of tours past.

1. So many firsts!

Tour life is filled with new experiences. Swimming is always a favorite with choir kids, but that wasn’t the only thing they got to experience here in the United States. They saw snow for the first time, tried their hand at baseball, took their first plane rides, tasted new foods, and so much more!

Yvonne Meets her Sponsor Family! July 31, 2018

Don’t miss this special report from Tour Leader Emma, on the road with the Ugandan Kids Choir:

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have the opportunity to meet your sponsor child? Take a moment to envision how meaningful it would be if your sponsored child had the chance to meet you, face to face. During the choir’s recent stay at Grace Christian Fellowship in Winchester, New Hampshire, this is exactly what happened for Pastor Matthew Worrall and his wife, Kathy.

You can probably imagine the initial emotions felt by both Pastor Matthew and Yvonne when the two of them finally wrapped their arms around each other for the first time. There were tears, there were smiles, and there was an obvious sense of awe. Little Yvonne was now more than an adorable face proudly displayed on Matthew and Kathy’s refrigerator….they could now physically hug her, talk with her and watch her face light up as Matthew explained how he continuously prays for her walk with Jesus.

Watch this precious video of the moment they first met!

“It ends up being family” November 7, 2017

It’s hard to believe that the 15th Ugandan Kids Choir is wrapping up. It seems like just yesterday they stepped off the plane from Uganda. They’ve grown so much this year! And not just in height (although they’ve done plenty of that!) – they’ve grown academically, emotionally and spiritually too.

Ten kids in brightly colored shirts all piled onto a couch, sitting on the back, the arms, or even each other.

Wherever they go, this group of kids lights up the room.

As they wrap up their tour, we took some time to sit down with them – both the kids and the leaders – and reflect on how far they’ve come.

FAVORITE MEMORIES

Our first question was easy. What is your favorite memory from tour?  (more…)

Auntie Michelle visits Uganda May 12, 2017

The bond a Tour Leader forms with their choir kids is special. They share countless hours on the bus, new experiences daily, the frustrations of close quarters and life on the road, and the joys of accomplishing their common goal of seeing more kids sponsored! For the kids, their “Auntie” becomes mom, teacher, friend and mentor all rolled into one. Saying goodbye at the end of tour is tough.  All of these reasons made Michelle Holstein’s trip to Uganda so exciting!

“Auntie Michelle” was a Tour Leader in 2016, and now she is getting ready to lead her next tour!

Michelle was a tour leader in 2016, and we are so excited that she is coming back to lead another tour starting soon. During her recent trip to Uganda, Michelle got to visit her former tour kids, as well as meet her new tour! And it sounds like it was an incredible experience for them all! (more…)

On the Road with Dr. Lange May 11, 2017

Recently, our founder and president, Dr. Max Lange, visited our office in Peru. When he came back, he took some time to reflect on all the progress that has been made in Peru, and all the work yet to be done. It’s pretty incredible to hear how God has been at work over the years!

Two young Peruvian girls leaning against each other and smiling for the camera.

Childcare Worldwide started working in Comas, Peru in 1984. A lot has changed in 33 years, so I asked Dr. Lange to paint me the picture of what it was like then, and what it is like now.
