Stitches of Hope November 20, 2018

Carmen grew up with seven siblings! With all those kids, there was never quite enough to go around. Carmen vowed she’d do better by her own family someday.

But she wound up with four kids of her own – and now one grandchild! Making ends meet in Peru’s economy is tough. Her parents could barely feed all of them. As soon as she was old enough, Carmen dropped out of school to find a job.

After she had her first child, Carmen decided she needed to go back and finish high school. (more…)

Who doesn’t love spring? The sun is shining, flowers are blooming and cute baby animals are being born. Everybody loves baby animals – there’s something so sweet and cuddly about them. But our excitement about meeting a puppy or kitten can’t match Dominic’s excitement for the coming of a new kid goat!

Boss of her own future April 27, 2018

Verginia’s biggest dream is to be the boss. But growing up in Haiti, she had few opportunities to succeed.

When she was a young girl, Verginia’s parents scraped together enough money to send her to trade school where she learned to sew. They all hoped that someday she would be able to afford a sewing machine of her own. That was when her dream started.

“It’s Never Too Late” August 28, 2017

Do you believe in miracles? When I hear stories like Alta’s, I have no doubts at all. Miracles happen!

Alta, Kenia and Ismelda struggled to survive for years. But this sewing machine is changing everything!

When Alta was just 17, she was able to go to a sewing trade school. She took to it naturally, rapidly absorbing everything she could. More importantly she loved every minute of it! She dreamed of using her new skills to start her own business someday. Sewing was a way for her to build a future away from the poverty she’d grown up in. (more…)

How a Life Center Ends Heartache June 28, 2017

Children in the developing world have so many needs it’s hard to know where to start. Food? Education? Clean water? Faith? Each of these things is a key to ending poverty for good, and we know children need them all. In order to treat all these needs at once, we built Life Centers.

Life Centers are the heart of Childcare Worldwide’s programs. Children in our programs meet at their Life Center weekly, building personal relationships with the staff and teachers there. This allows us learn exactly what each child’s needs are – and the needs are many! – and find appropriate ways to meet them. Instead of just a band aid, our Life Centers offer children in need real, holistic change.
