Meet Stessy February 15, 2019

Meet Stessy!

Meet Stessy. This precious four-year-old lives in Haiti. Her home is literally a tent.

And it’s not even a nice tent… their “tent” is actually a combination of tarps and sheets propped up on sticks. There’s a bed at the back, a small pile of dishes in the corner, a wooden table and a small stove set carefully in the open space on the ground in the middle. And that’s it. Can you imagine?

At night Stessy’s mom, Widelène, takes a piece of corrugated metal and props it over the tent’s “door.” She has a small chain she uses to lock this piece of metal to the wooden stakes. That’s all the security she can give Stessy and her sister.

This is the only life little Stessy has ever known. (more…)

The End of One Chapter is the Start of Another February 1, 2019

One Ugandan Kids Choir is wrapping up their tour, and another is getting ready to join us! The current choir is headed home in a few short weeks and we are sure going to miss them!

In celebration of the end of their tour, we have something special to share with you. While on the road, we’ve shared a lot of funny moments together as the kids worked on their English and encountered new things. And today we’re going to share some of that laughter with you, through our favorite quotes from each child:

  • Isaac: The kids got to see a lot of wildlife they don’t have at home. And sometimes they had no idea what they were looking at. Once, Isaac told Emma, “Auntie! I just saw a small bear!” The actual creature he saw? A groundhog!

My best subject is… September 7, 2018

For many kids in the U.S. it’s back-to-school time! But the Ugandan Kids Choir has been making school a priority the whole time they’ve been on tour. So, instead of cute back-to-school pictures, I give you an adorable school favorites video!

In Uganda, they use the word “best” to mean favorite, and the choir kids want to share with you their “best” subjects!

Juliet’s True Love Story June 13, 2018

Despite the heartbreak she’s already experienced in her short life, Juliet is quick to smile and laugh. One thing that helps that quick smile reach her eyes? The love she finds at her local Life Center!

A young girl in a blue sweater flashes a mischievous grin at the camera.

13-year-old Juliet lives with her sister and grandmother in Taboga, Kenya. They have a one-room hut, with mud walls and a thatched roof. They rely on a small vegetable garden for food. Juliet helps with the weeding and planting. During the rainy season, their garden flourishes, and they have plenty to eat. But in the frequent dry spells it’s hard to make anything grow. (more…)
