In rural Thailand, as well as in city slums, children trapped in poverty are facing terrible obstacles. An estimated 900,000 primary aged children are not enrolled in school. Most are being forced into child labor, and many are being trafficked into the exploitive Thai sex trade. Since the 1990’s, an estimated 380,000 children have already been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic, and some 200-300 children are born HIV-positive each year in Thailand.
While the country has experienced growth and improvement in healthcare and social security over the last few decades, unstable education and agriculture are still leaving people extremely vulnerable.
Childcare Worldwide has been working in Thailand since 1996, and we currently have more than 250 children enrolled in child sponsorship there.
