India is home to some of the world’s most densely populated cities, and despite the country’s rapidly industrialized power, a large percent of the population still lives in terrible poverty. The plight of India’s children is severe, they have the largest number of malnourished children in the world, and medical care for poor children is nearly non-existent, with less than 1 doctor available per 1,000 children. There are 27 million child laborers under the age of 14.
Violent persecution of Christians by the Hindu majority (80.5%) and the growing Muslim population (13.4%) is rampant.
Childcare Worldwide has been working in India since 1981. There are over 200 kids currently in our sponsorship program and over 400 children in our Life Centers there.
