A Merry Christmas, around the world! December 10, 2018

It’s Christmas time! And thanks to you, the kids we serve around the world are celebrating in style!

Every year our staff works very hard to throw a big Christmas party in each of our program locations, and it’s your Love Pak gifts that make it possible. The basics at each party are the same: yummy food, a special present to let each child know they’re loved, and a retelling of the nativity story. At the heart of each party is a celebration of Jesus’ birth. But beyond that, each country infuses the party with their own traditions.

It’s so much fun to see the different ways kids celebrate! Here’s a brief look at past Love Pak parties around the world, to help you visualize how our kids are celebrating this year:

Stitches of Hope November 20, 2018

Carmen grew up with seven siblings! With all those kids, there was never quite enough to go around. Carmen vowed she’d do better by her own family someday.

But she wound up with four kids of her own – and now one grandchild! Making ends meet in Peru’s economy is tough. Her parents could barely feed all of them. As soon as she was old enough, Carmen dropped out of school to find a job.

After she had her first child, Carmen decided she needed to go back and finish high school. (more…)

Christmas in Kiserian November 11, 2016

Kiserian is a small village that lies just beyond the shores of Lake Baringo. To get there is no easy task! One way is to take a boat across the lake. The other way is to take a four-wheel drive vehicle over bumpy roads and through rushing streams.

Christmas in World War II Germany November 24, 2015

Recently, our founder and president, Dr. Max Lange shared some special Christmas memories of when he was a child growing up in Germany during World War II. Hearing him retell his stories was like watching an old, flickering, black and white movie – I could almost see the past come alive, complete with both sad and bittersweet images.

So, grab a cup of hot cocoa or apple cider as Dr. Lange takes us on a journey back to some early Christmas memories, and shares some final thoughts on this very special holiday.

CHILDCARE WORLDWIDE:
What were the Christmas traditions that you looked forward to each year?

MAX:
Back then I looked forward to going to the village church. I remember the snow and the moonlight and the warm church, and people – despite the bad times – rejoicing in the birth of the “Heiland” (Savior). I was proud to be part of a pageant being one of the three kings.

A lesson on Christmas from Nana November 13, 2015

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas. And what do you get for the person who has everything? Or, perhaps how do you honor a grandchild with a “meaningful” gift alongside their usual “fun” gift?”

Recently, we sat down with fellow staff member, Nancy Zylstra, and asked if she would share a bit about how she has given meaningful gifts to her grandkids every year and how they have responded.
