Famine in East Africa
The worst drought in 60 years is causing widespread hunger and starvation across Somalia and parts of Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The rains did not come during what should have been the past two rainy seasons, causing crops and animals to die.
Insecurity and the lack of aid have forced thousands of Somalis to make the arduous journey to refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia.
There are now over 400,000 refugees at the camp in Dadaab, Kenya. This camp is the largest refugee camp in the world.
Childcare Worldwide’s Kenya Director, John Mwangi delivered enough food to provide 200 families with corn flour, rice and cooking oil.
The refugee camp is better than staying in Somalia. Despite this, John reports that in the camp, “People are suffering, I mean really suffering.”
Haiti Good News Clubs
The Good News Club is a VBS type program that takes place during school vacation in lieu of the Haiti School Feeding program.
Proverbs 22:6 says to “train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
The Good News Club is a part of this training, and enables children to build firm foundations on which to build the rest of their lives.
