Haiti: Rebuilding
On January 12th, the world collapsed for many Haitians. It has been over six months since the earthquake hit, but the people of Haiti are still suffering. Slowly but surely, they are working hard to piece their lives together once again.
With your help, Childcare Worldwide has been able to provide the food and medical supplies necessary for daily living. Our Family and School Feeding Programs are continuing to provide meals for over 3,000 people. To hear more about the success of the feeding programs, read a letter from our Haiti Director, Mendelson Cesar.
Sponsorship Update
In April, 2010, children in our Sponsorship Program returned to their classes. We are thankful that 97% of our children were able to remain in the area in which they live. The other 3% were forced to move outside of the Port-au-Prince area and are no longer living in an area where Childcare operates. Thankfully, no children were killed or injured during the earthquake. Though three of the schools Childcare works with in the Port-au-Prince area were demolished in the quake, classes have continued in tents and the children are progressing despite their difficult circumstances.
