There are numerous difficulties in trying to rebuild an impoverished country amidst the threats of aftershocks. There have been at least 54 recorded aftershocks since the major earthquake on January 12. These aftershocks, though fairly small, have been just powerful enough to continue to collapse standing buildings. One mother of three claimed that she will not go inside “until the ground calms down.” In the mean time, her family of five is living in a make-shift tent.
The need for temporary shelter still remains, along with the great need for nutritious food. Childcare Worldwide plans on continuing to feed families basic staples such as rice, beans, tomatoes, noodles and cooking oil through their Family Feeding Program.
