Indonesia Emergency / May 2006

Andi Hanindito, an official in the Social Affairs Ministry said “We are getting information from areas that were previously inaccessible. The death toll from Saturday’s 6.3 magnitude quake rose to 6,234 after 388 more bodies were recovered in a remote corner of Bantul.” Another official, Bambang Priyohadi stated that the tremor destroyed more than 135,000 homes in less than a minute, displacing some 647,000 people.

Childcare Worldwide is working through the Bethany Churches of Indonesia who have asked for help. We are in the process of delivering 20 tons of medicine, food and clothing to those who need it most.
