VIOLENCE BREAKS OUT IN KENYA / March 2008

We have received a report from our East Africa director that a new wave of violence took the lives of many people and left hundreds of homes in flames. People were beaten to death or mutilated and killed with machetes.

The death toll of the violence following the flawed presidential election last December has climbed to over 600. Thousands of homes have been burned and many more thousands have fled to seek refuge elsewhere.

Childcare Worldwide has its head office in Nakuru, about a two hours drive from Nairobi. According to our director things are relatively quiet there. This is one reason thousands of refugees have come there.

With the renewed violence in the past few days hundreds more have come to Nakuru. With so many there who are in great need we need your support to help. These people have fled their burning homes with just the clothes on their back. Many have lost relatives, all are hungry and in need of comfort. Because of the altitude, nights are bitter cold. Needed is food, blankets, tents medicine and other supplies.
