Peru Earthquake / August 2007

Bellingham, August 20, 2007
The pictures we have seen remind us of bombed out cities of World War II. And who can forget the faces of crying women and children mourning the death of their loved ones! The dead were scattered by the dozens in the streets of Pisco and more than 200 people were buried under the rubble of a collapsed church where they were attending service.

It is now winter in Peru and quite cold. In the providence of God we had just shipped a container of winter clothing and blankets. It arrived in Lima last week!

The most urgent need now is for food and water. The situation is getting desperate! Our director in Peru is Alwin Rahmel who has worked in that country for over 50 years. He called today and pleaded for more assistance. He has sent one large truckload of food to Ica, but more is urgently needed. We have our own staff that makes sure that the aid will go to the right people.
